sr20det aftermarket tachometer

Post by slammedred89 » Sat Jul 05, 2014 12:43 am

I'm sure a lot of you guys know this already but just want to throw it out there. If you're looking to put a monsterish tachometer on you sr20det motor you'll need to use the 180 CAS wire for signal. It's pin out #30. White wire silver dashes along it. Just posting because I had trouble figuring it out. Very limited info on this

For anyone wondering why I put this on. My dash took a sh!t on me. Basically I lost all power in the cab. No speedo, no tach, no temp, no breaks, no turn signals, no seat belt sliding action (lucky they got stuck in the door shut position). Dn is this Sunday and I still haven't found the solution to why it's cutting out. I found it regains power if it sits for a while. Everything will work but if I hit the breaks it all cuts off until it sits for a few days. But mechanically everything else works. Drives fine and the headlights still work. So until I figure it out I'll be taking it off the public road and just tracking it. Dont really need the speedo to spin the wheels but I do need the tach for proper power band and mechanical failure monitoring.

I had a very similar problem with my 86. I ended up hardwiring the power to headlights, brake lights, running lights, and other stuff. I then mounted cool switches on the center console so I could turn them on and off when I wanted to drive the car.

I never had a tach in the car, so I don't know if you can do that on the tach. Maybe you can just hit it with some power and see what happens? if the lead for the engine revs is still working, it might turn on.

Idk what's up with it. I clipped an apex yesterday on the track and bottomed out the frame. Guess it jolted anything in the cab. It's been about 24hrs and everything is still working fine.*knocks on wood*

Did you break a ground wire? I know in my AE86 I have a dangling ground wire connected to the trans mount. If i were to be super slammed, I'd want to watch out for that.
Sway is like a race horse; if you push it sometimes, it's ok, but if you are hard on it all the time, then it's going to break its ankle and then you will have to shoot it.

That's what I'm going to look for next time I get a chance to work on my own car haha.
