Switch on Kick Plate 240sx s13?

Post by ahenry » Wed May 22, 2013 5:24 am

Hey all,
So I was stripping the carpet out of my 240 and took the kick plate off and there was a switch on the side... So I unplugged it. Well a bit later I went to start the car and nothing... So I hooked that back up since that was only thing I unplugged. And the car started. WTF is this. Ive never seen it before. Did this come factory? Or is it some after market security. I guess I can just bypass it by soldering the two together? Just curious.... Ill try and take a pic.

i think it's the plastic thing to the left of the clutch that you rest your foot on when you are not using teh clutch.

Sounds like aftermarket security.
Sway is like a race horse; if you push it sometimes, it's ok, but if you are hard on it all the time, then it's going to break its ankle and then you will have to shoot it.

Yeah the Plastic foot rest to the left of the clutch. I figured it had to be aftermarket. Ill take some pics on sunday and put them up. I just hope the wiring is not to intrecate. I am no wiring genious. Actually pretty retarded when It comes to wiring, and electronics.
Thanks for the help.

You aren't alone. Electronics are just fine with me, but vehicle wiring usually overwhelms me, and I'm rubbish at it. Don't remember any switch like that being under my kick panel in my 180sx, so I'm betting aftermarket as well too.

....Unless it's part of the wiring that senses if the clutch pedal is depressed or not to start the car? My 180 started without the clutch being disengaged, so that might be the cause... Shit, now I'm torn between the two options I listed on what it might be... FUCK YOU CAR WIRES!

haha I agree. Its the strangest place for a switch. Cant wait to snap a pic to show yall. This car has been a nightmare the past few weeks of working on it. Huge rusted hole in the floorpan! mice chewed a bunch of engine wires. The smell of removing 20 year old carpet! GAG!!! lol

i think jazpin is on the right course here. there is a switch on the clutch pedal assembly that usually won't let you start the car unless the clutch is engaged. looks like someone moved it, maybe for security, maybe for other reasons? but yeah if you just tie the wires together it might solve your problem.

Best way to check is to try to start the car in neutral without the clutch and the switch hooked up if that's the case.
